The Kolendo Collective was founded with a clear mission: to advocate for the rights and well-being of youth across Alaska while protecting the freedoms that ensure individuals can express themselves and be heard. Our history began when we saw a need for a strong, unified voice in Alaska’s political landscape—one that would prioritize the concerns of young people and defend their rights.
The Kolendo Collective’s story traces back to when our founder, Ben Kolendo, served as the head student representative on the Matanuska-Susitna School District Board. Ben was removed from his position on the board for speaking out against unethical practices within the school board, a decision that ignited outrage and sparked a statewide movement for student rights. In the wake of this injustice, people across Alaska came together, demanding greater representation and stronger protections for youth.
The Kolendo Collective dedicated to protecting rights of young people, ensuring their ability to speak, express themselves, and engage freely. By working with communities, lawmakers, and government officials, we aim to empower young people and protect their voices across the state.
